An opening reception for SHIFT will be at 7 p.m. (dusk) Monday, April 24, at Reliable Street. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to attend.
The entire 86-student ISU second-year architecture studio (ARCH 202) will install its latest design-build project — a permanent outdoor public space that integrates both seating and places for play — at Reliable Street in Ames. At night, it will be illuminated with an architectural light display powered by a solar panel system donated by local Ames company PowerFilm.
The ARCH 202 studio was invited by the Reliable Street artists’ collective to design a new installation for the collective’s upcoming opening. Reliable Street is a nonprofit organization which is developing an entrepreneurial incubator and community space with live music, food, coffee and a bar. Several College of Design faculty members as well as local Iowa artists are participating in the effort. The project, titled SHIFT, is supported by Reliable Street and a 2017 Curriculum Based Outreach Fund grant.
